“Battı Balık Yan Gider” is part of the GreenHack project, created by the [Codlective] Collective, which originated from the COD 302 Studio course of the Communication Design department at Özyeğin University, and has grown beyond its initial scope through collaboration with the Yaklaş team. GreenHack focuses on the hidden treasure of our campus, the campus creek. Art and design have been used as powerful means of science communication to convey our environmental messages to a broad audience.
Our project, "Battı Balık Yan Gider," aims to tell the story of the ecosystem in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul by bringing together nature and technology. We aim to transform a dried-up creek bed into a monument that commemorates the extinct fish species of the region while also highlighting the importance of environmental conservation by sharing the stories of Istanbul's endemic species on a digital platform.
The purpose of the project is to encourage people to question their impact on the natural world, respect the memory of lost species, and raise awareness about environmental protection. Emphasizing the critical importance of preserving freshwater resources for a sustainable future is the fundamental rationale of our project.
About The Team
We’re DXMHKY. We are a dedicated team of university students passionate about environmental conservation and the protection of freshwater ecosystems. Our project focuses on raising awareness about the alarming loss of freshwater fish species due to habitat destruction, pollution, and other human activities.
